Learning Scholars Diagnostic Initial Evaluation Test

Many a times parents see their children struggle with their grades or notice that they perform well in certain subjects but are just not able to cope up with others. A weak foundation goes unnoticed in the early stages, and it won't be long before the child is struggling to catch up, leaving him/her frustrated and disappointed.
This is because the child lacks certain essential skills- we define these as skill gaps- needed to perform well at school.

Learning scholars conducts a skill gap analysis test - which compares the student’s skills with the skills required for completing the course, to identify the performance improvement opportunities- by administering the Diagnostic Initial Evaluation Test or DIET.

Diagnostic Initial Evaluation Test is conducted in the presence of the Academic Coordinator, who constantly monitors the students as they take the test. The test is based on the previous year’s curriculum. It measures the student’s performance in the specific subject - English, Math or Science – that the student requires tutoring in.

The Diagnostic Initial Evaluation Test is for one hour and consists of multiple choice and application questions, that are broken into three sections- Easy, Intermediate and Difficult.

Easy Section: 50% of the questions are from this section. The question in this section tests the student’s knowledge about the given topic. The student’s ability to recall and recognize concepts taught in the previous grade are assessed. Once the student successfully completes all the questions in this section, he/she can progress to the next level of testing.

Intermediate section: The student’s understandings of the concepts are tested in this section and constitute 30% of the questions in the test. The student’s competence in explaining concepts previously learnt, citing examples, describing the processes and defining topics are evaluated. If the student answers all the questions in the intermediate section, then he/she is administered the Difficult section.

Difficult Section: The learning process is incomplete if the student cannot apply the concepts in appropriate context. Hence this section tests the student’s ability to apply the concepts learnt and constitutes the remaining 20% of the questions. The student’s aptitude in articulating, analyzing and applying the concepts effectively is tested.

Scoring and Analysis: The student will receive one point for each correct answer. The student gets half point if he/she is able to complete the question with some assistance from the Academic Coordinator. The tutor tabulates the score and represents it in percentage.

The Academic Coordinator then evaluates the performance of the student. The student and their parents get a detailed feedback on the student’s performance in the DIET. After collecting the feedback from parents the Academic Coordinator assigns the student to an appropriate tutor.

Based on the DIET results and feedback from parents, the Academic Coordinator and tutor design a customized tutoring model for the student. Subsequent testing at regular intervals helps to monitor the student’s progress. At Learning Scholars we guarantee you 15% - 20% rise in scores within the first few months of tutoring.
